Just in time for my arrival the Alvin Ailey Dance Company came to South Africa after a nearly 20 year hiatus. I had the amazing opportunity to meet some of the dancers at the U.S. Consulate reception and to see their performance at the Artscape Theatre. I was too amazed to take any pictures of the show. I did manage to stay after the show and snag a photo with company member/performer and ‘cousin’ Samantha Figgins. The show was uplifting and had me dancing in my seat!! I hope they continue the tradition of visiting South Africa, as they were well received and loved! It was worth the half day hike to get to the top!! #stunningviews #rockclimbing #hikinginthefog ‘Boomslang’ Tree Canopy Walkway @KirstenboschNBG #stunningview #areyouafraidofheights There are many reasons to go to the garden, but here is one more: Check out this summer's concert series here: http://www.sanbi.org/gardens/kirstenbosch/summer-concerts I will never forget my first time arriving in South Africa in May 2015. At midnight, we sleepily walked off the plane, got through home affairs, retrieved our luggage, and we finally made it to the ‘Mother City’ (Cape Town, South Africa). The sign that greets you makes you feel at home, even if this is your first time in Cape Town. It makes you feel welcomed in this foreign land. With a two day journey to get to South Africa, my favorite part is seeing this sign. Now, since my research is based here I get to see this sign at least once a year and am very thankful to get this welcoming opportunity. Nothing beats a reunion to the land where we all come from.
