Just in time for my arrival the Alvin Ailey Dance Company came to South Africa after a nearly 20 year hiatus. I had the amazing opportunity to meet some of the dancers at the U.S. Consulate reception and to see their performance at the Artscape Theatre. I was too amazed to take any pictures of the show. I did manage to stay after the show and snag a photo with company member/performer and ‘cousin’ Samantha Figgins. The show was uplifting and had me dancing in my seat!! I hope they continue the tradition of visiting South Africa, as they were well received and loved!
